Here lately, my heart has been heavy with how I can encourage other women my age in their relationship with The Lord. I have a few friends–who will remain unnamed–that I have spoken with who are really struggling. Mentoring/Disciplining have been in the forefront of my mind. I have always been so afraid to mentor because I felt I wasn’t “good enough” or knew the Bible well enough to do so. Then I realized that those are lies from the King of Lies Himself, Satan. I shouldn’t let fear get in the way of God using me to minister.
I want God to use me, and I want Him to make me the woman He created me to be. I want to help women in their walk with The Lord. If I never accomplish anything else in my lifetime, I at least want to die someday knowing that God used me to make a difference in someone’s life. So, if you’re like me and wanting to do the same, you might wonder “Well, how exactly do I do that?” and I am gonna tell you.
In order to be able to equip, empower, and encourage someone in their faith, obviously we need a relationship with Jesus, but there are a few Bible verses that can give us some guidelines that I will expound on. One of them is Ephesians 5:1-2
“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved
children; and walk in love, just as Christ also
loved you and gave Himself up for us, an
offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant
to me, this verse says to imitate God and walk in love. He gave Himself up for us on the cross, and I believe we should do the same for others. We should give ourselves up for them like Christ did, we should love them and love on them. We imitate Christ when we teach others about Him, and treat them and love them like He does.
Another good verse about mentoring/teaching is 1 Peter 3:15
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always
be prepared to give an answer to everyone who
asks you to give the reason for the hope that
you have. But do this with gentleness and
the person(s) that you mentor come to you to be encouraged, equipped with knowledge of The Word, and to learn. This verse is a good one for that reason. People are constantly watching, listening, and learning. They want to know why we have such an unwavering hope in Jesus and how we handle what we do. Discipleship, mentoring, and teaching are all great ways to encourage, equip, and empower women in Jesus! The Bible also says to
“Go therefore and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit” -Matthew 28:19
DISCIPLESHIP makes DISCIPLES! We should disciple to make disciples and help each other grow in our walks with The Lord.
These are some AWESOME ways to encourage people! But, you should also reach out, be a friend, and listen. Don’t do any of this just because I have mentioned it, you need to do this because you WANT to, and you want to make a genuine difference in someone’s life and see them succeed and grow in Christ!
I know this post isn’t as put together as my other ones, but I felt to need to talk about it. So, if you’re reading this and you want to mentor, want someone to mentor you, or just simply want to share your thoughts, leave them in the comments or email me!
