She Reads Truth: A book from B&H Publishing, tells the stories of two women who discovered, through very different lives and circumstances, that only God and His Word remain unchanged as the world around them slipped away. Infused with biblical application and Scripture, this book is not just about two characters in two stories, but about one Hero and one Story. Every image points to the bigger picture–that God and His Word are true. Not because of anything we do, but because of who He is. Not once, not occasionally, but currently and all the time.
Sometimes it takes everything moving to notice the thing that doesn’t move. Sometimes it takes telling two very different stories to notice how the Truth was exactly the same in both of them.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect with this book when I first received it. I just knew that I loved the She Reads Truth ministry from my experience with Amanda & Raechel’s study Open Your Bible.
I was excited to dig in and see what would unfold in the pages of this book, and I couldn’t wait to start.
If you know me, you know I don’t read much due to lack of time usually. However, this book had me reaching for more. I have never read a book that was so full of raw authenticity and such Truth. There were several times I teared up as Amanda and Raechel bravely told their stories.
In just 10 chapters, I felt like I had known them for years. The words were beautifully written in such a relatable and real way.
Their stories are filled with both tragedy and triumph, but my favorite part of the entire book is this:
No matter what the trial, their focus remained on Christ. They continually and repetitively pointed you back to Christ in every single page of the book.
They told their stories, but every single story–good, bad, ugly, and hard–pointed back to Jesus. The entire focus of the book was this: “Holding on to Permanent in a World that’s Passing Away”
To me, this was more than just a book. It is a story of redemption, and an encouragement to seek the truest Truth, the Truth of Jesus Christ, and hold fast to His truth in the midst of our circumstances. To continually cling to the thing that is Permanent and that won’t let go. The last few lines of the last chapter of the book sums up everything, and they are this:
“God’s promises are permanent when the world’s promises pass away.
God’s covenant is permanent when our good intentions pass away.
God’s love is permanent when our good behavior passes away.
God’s mercy is permanent when our bodies pass away.
God’s hope is permanent when our plans are passing away.
God’s sovereignty in permanent when when our power is passing away
The gospel is permanent when our belief is passing away.
The permanent is there for you. Whatever this temporary life has looked like, and whatever signs are waiting on the road ahead, God and His Truth will always be true.
You cannot change the Truth. You cannot earn it or lose it or escape it.
But you can hold on to it, knowing that it holds you”.
No matter what kinds of things happen in this life, whatever trials, tragedies and triumphs we have, we can always hold fast to Christ, knowing that no matter what we do or don’t do, that He loves us, and He is holding us. We can’t do ANYTHING that will keep Him from loving us, fighting for us, and holding us. We can always put our hope in Christ, because He never leaves and He never fails.
I don’t think there was a single thing I didn’t like about this book. However, if you are looking for a good story on how the She Reads Truth ministry came to be, this book is not for you.
